Day Four

Last day today, going to the deep cave, very excited. Its also the first time I will be carrying a 6 pack rig (twinset and 4 slings), luckily I dont have to carry it all until we get down to 9 mtrs.

As we descend Jimmy goes off like a rocket, Per and I can't keep up. I have no air in my wing at 65 mtrs so I'm falling very fast and JImmy is already at 80 mtrs. I drop off one of my tanks outside the cave entrance so I only have 3 tanks inside making me smaller for the restictions.

As we go in, the cave drops down to about 100 mtrs where we see the main line. Last year Jimmy and Jim put a cookie on the line marking that they had been there. This year it is mine and Pers turn to put ours next to it mine says JILLY 2008 here at last!!.

The cave walls are full of cappy worm castings. To be honest I can't tell you much about the inside of the cave as it all went so fast... in one hole, out the other, not much time at 107 mtrs. We had a max of 12 mins in the cave, and we had work to do cleaning up any lines that shouldnt be there. Jimmy went to pick up one, and I was to stay near the main line to make sure they could see it to come back. Per had another line to bring in. Problem was, the boys hadn't told me Per would be going down a hole and disappearing behind a rock. Yesterday he had seen a hole and started down it and got slighty stuck and they both have a tendency to see a hole and go!! So my thoughts where "bugger Pers off again he has seen a hole". I looked at my pressure gauge but realised I couldn't go after him, firstly because I hadn't been in this cave before and we were going out of a different exit to the one we came, in so I didnt know how long before we were to come out of the other side. And, secondly, after I turned to Jimmy to say Per had gone and turned back, I wasn't sure which hole he had gone in there were 2! Jimmy signaled "Its OK" just as I saw Pers torch light. My breathing rate slowed down a bit after that!!!!!.

We then make our ascent out of the cave. I clipped up my extra tank again and off we go up.

Back at the 6 mtrs point we still have 50 mins of deco to do! Although the cave was great I'm still thinking I prefer the mexico caves, without all the boring deco..

So the project is over, but we may not be finished yet. Leigh has seen another hole at about 100 mtrs looks like a long corridor. Maybe we will be back again next year!!

Watch Valeria's video of the mapping of this cave system, filmed herself.
