Jilly does PADI!

Day 12 - To the Island

Today we are going to do the open water presentation sections, so it's all day in the sea. Alan, one of the staff gave us a brief the day before, and he kept mentioning "the island". It sounds like something out of "Lost" - we get the feeling they might leave us their see how we survive. Hope not cos, I really dont like fish and that seems to be the staple food out here.

At 7.45 in the morning we walk down to the dock with all our dive kit - my wetsuit is still wet after 2 day's drying. Weump on a boat to the island. It's only a 5 min. boat ride. Once on the island (think its called Mahuti), we kit up and head straight into the water. I have "rigging a lift bag and making it neutrally buoyant". All goes well, 'till Patrick has the problem of putting his hand so far up the bag, it could be dangerous if it was deployed. With no idea what sign to give not to do that, the "dont fist it" sign pops up. Patrick raised one eyebrow at me, to which I started giggling, and it spread down the line of students 'till we were all giggling messes. Small things please small minds and all that!!. Unfortunalety Mick the staff with us, missed it, but being the northern girl I am, I explained what happened to him!

In the afternoon we had Suzanne with us, my skill was mask removal and replacement, well I've done that a few times in my life, so I'm not too worried about that one. There is a stonefish at the bottom of the descent line about which I got rather excited - Look it's the first fish we had seen all day! Suzanne told me to look the other way whilst she assigned problems. Next minuteI get a tap on the shoulder, and a wide eyed look from Suzanne, the stonefish had moved, very quickly I might add, and was sitting about 2 inches under my knees where I was hovering!!! Can you imagine? I pay £7000 to come here and the day before I get told I have passed ( if I have) I get done in by a stonefish!!!

So today was my best day yet, I am flying two scores of 5, a perfect score. I'm so happy with that one, it's off the the bar to celebrate.

And a good night was had by all in the restuarant. A few funny stories came out that I am afraid being a PADI professional, I cannot share with you guys!!!!!

So its now 7.30 in the morning, and today is the day we find out if we have made it.

Wish me luck.
